THE SHOW
Once again, Inspire Creative will produce An Evening On Broadway, directed by the show’s creator, David Priboth, with one of Denver’s top choreographers, Liane Adamo, and music direction by everyone’s favorite, Ron Troester. The show will be produced at the new PACE Mainstage Theatre May 25th through 27th. The program will feature thirty of Broadway’s best loved songs from some of Broadway’s most popular musicals presented in costumed song and dance. Some of the shows being considered for this year’s production are:
The Lion King Hairspray
Chorus Line Seussical
My Fair Lady Nine to Five
Chicago Spamelot
Jekyll & Hyde Les Miserables
REHEARSALS
In order to make a solid commitment to this production, there are some things you need to be aware of before you audition. This production is a musical in which ALL members of the cast are essential to its success.
It is only fair that you know what you are committing to, before you say “yes.” So here are the basics:
- This production will feature a very compact rehearsal schedule covering only eight weeks including tech week. Therefore it is imperative that we ask cast members to be fully familiar with the music before rehearsals begin. With the aids we will provide, you will not find this difficult. This method will allow rehearsal to be for rehearsing, not learning.
- Rehearsals will begin on Sunday, March 25th.
- Full cast calls will be on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. These times will be used for choral vocals and dance.
- Duets, Trios, and Ensemble calls will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. as necessary and will be used for smaller scene preparation. This type of scheduling will make the most efficient use of everyone’s time, allow for custom time scheduling, and result in the fewest number of rehearsal calls for each cast member.
- Rehearsal locations will be announced and will be in the Parker, CO area.
- Every rehearsal is important. A rehearsal schedule will be provided so you can consider what will be expected of you. This schedule will NOT change. What that means to you, is that you will be able to plan family, work and personal activities around this schedule, knowing we won’t mess with it. After all, you have a life outside of this production!
- Rehearsals will begin on time and end on time!
- If there is a conflict with a particular rehearsal date…talk to us. We will try, if possible, to work around it. The only exception to that will be the last two weeks before the performance…those are NOT NEGOTIABLE.
- If you are sick and unable to attend a rehearsal, it is essential you call the director as early as possible, so rehearsal can be adjusted to make the best use of everyone’s time.
CAST MUSIC
Music for cast members will be available two weeks prior to be beginning of rehearsals. This will include lyrics, scores where available, and both demo and practice tracks on CD. In this way cast members can learn the music before rehearsals begin.
AUDITIONS
In order to be fair, here is what we expect in the audition process and what you can expect from us.
Audition Information
Auditions will be held on Sat. and Sun. Feb. 18th and 19th from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Providence Presbyterian Church, 18632 Pony Express Drive, Parker, CO. Callbacks, if needed, will be Mon. Feb. 20th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
- Sign up for an audition time by Friday, February 17 at http://www.inspirecreative.org or by emailing auditions@inspirecreative.org or calling the office at 303-790-0875.
- VERY IMPORTANT: Please review this packet prior to auditioning concerning commitment level and rehearsal times. We will assume you have carefully reviewed them and are willing and able.
What Can You Expect
- An informal, relaxed atmosphere (not the Spanish Inquisition).
- No intimidation or judgmental attitudes.
- No pre-chosen parts.
- Fairness regarding a conflict with a rehearsal date. If it can be resolved or worked around, a conflict will not necessarily disqualify you from a part.
What We Expect
- Required: Head Shot and Resume of past experience. (Past experience not required).
- You should prepare a Broadway song that best shows your talent. Songs from the shows being considered may be used.
- Please bring an instrumental CD accompaniment track or sheet music in your key for your song.
- Because of time constraints, the audition panel may stop you before the conclusion of your song, but that will in no way reflect their opinion of your talent.
- Wear comfortable clothing as you will be asked to learn a short dance routine as well.
- Auditions are open to those who are age 8 or above.
How Parts Are Chosen
While we would love to give you the opportunity to perform in the role that “touched your heart,” please understand that it is our job is to place those in roles that we feel can be most successful in that part. If you audition, hoping to get a specific part, please understand that our goal is two-fold, to give people opportunities to grow in their craft and to present productions of excellence.
Parts are chosen by the audition committee with the director having the final say. There will be a lot of time and deliberation that goes in to selecting each part (including minor roles). Factors that influence our decision are:
- The audition—Were you prepared? How well did you do?
- Physical characteristics—Do you fit the part?
- Time commitment—If you cannot commit to the necessary rehearsals, then we cannot place you in that role.
- Matching cast members—We sometimes have to consider size in relationship to a part. (Example: If you desire a role of a wife and the actor chosen to play the husband is a foot shorter than you are…)
Thanks ahead of time for your understanding!
