STUDENTS AGES SIX THROUGH ADULT enroll in classes which will be available in short, flexible formats or longer courses. We offer workshops, clinics and master classes in specific disciplines. By teaming with Inspire Performance and Inspire Truth, Inspire Training will provide these students and participants opportunities to apply what they learn. For example, when Inspire Performance is working on a dramatic musical to tour, there will be times Inspire Training will run a parallel junior production of the same piece. The junior production includes simplified dramatic roles, vocal arrangements and orchestration so that the students have the chance to work on a real production and then present it to family and friends. Schools, churches and arts organizations can use Inspire Training as an excellent equipping resource to enrich their own arts programs and it will also provide resources in the form of cast, crew and more to meet the needs of other organizations. It will be a connecting point for artists throughout the community. Whether you are looking for children's piano lessons, an excellent Winter Guard program or desire to grow in your acting skills, we can provide the excellent instruction you seek. We held our first training event, GET INSPIRED! Broadway Musical Training Event on Saturday May 10th, and we had a wonderful day. Several participants attended, a great group with a broad range of experience and a wealth of talent! We had a lot of fun in a playful atmosphere. As participants checked in, everyone got a piece of clay to make something artistic with, had some make-up applied, and received a kazoo. Ralph Neumann, President of Inspire, led the first segment on who Inspire Creative is and asked each student what their backgrounds were. Many had been in several productions and some were just getting involved in performance. They all played If I Were a Rich Man, a musical number from the show Fiddler on the Roof, on their fun instruments and began to relax and enjoy "playing with us." That particular activity culminated with Bruce Ballenger, one of the Inspire leaders, stomping across the floor with his hands in the air like Tevye, the lead character in the show. Dr. Scott Martin, founder and director of the Academy of Arts and an amazing vocal instructor, led vocal and breathing technique clinics and it was awesome to see the changes that occurred throughout the day as he worked with everyone. Inspire Performance Director Gary Lewis helped actors develop their acting skills during his segment on drama, helping the students understand how to create their character using games to illustrate the concepts. During that same time slot, a few of the students took a vocal troubleshooting time with Dr. Martin, where each one of them transformed their sound, making it resonate and fill the room with a richer sound! In the third unit, Dr. Martin shared the important points about how to sing Broadway style and then we put it into practice for the final segment during which we practiced the vocal parts for Tradition (another number from Fiddler) with the entire group and Gary blocked the action. When all the elements were in place and the number was rehearsed, it began to spring to life taking on an energy all its own. The result was a totally cool thing that created amazing clarity from the performers while simultaneously singing their individual parts. After the short amount of time we spent on Tradition, we were almost ready to perform on stage, the sound was fabulous. It easily sounded like three times as many voices by the time we finished the day!
Many of the participants formed new friendships, learned valuable audition techniques and had positive things to say. One attendee, Raechel Karas was very happy with her experience, "My favorite part was getting to work with Dr. Scott Martin. He is a great vocal teacher and I learned a lot about my vocal technique. It was a fun, creative day. Everyone was really friendly and I have already told people at my school about the training I received. I am very excited about auditioning for Fiddler on the Roof!" Several of those at the event felt the same way and also purchased yellow or orange Inspire shirts which asked on the front, "Done anything creative lately?" and invited on the back, "Come play with us!" The shirts will be available on the web site soon if you were not able to attend and purchase one. They all seemed very excited about the possibility of auditioning for Fiddler and telling their friends about Inspire; one girl asked if she could put up a poster about Fiddler auditions up at her school. The energy was electric throughout the day and there was plenty of interactive participation such as students coming up to assist in the demonstration of concepts. This helped to reinforce the new techniques with real-life classroom application. We look forward to another Inspire Training event in the near future and hope you can come play with us then also!
